Fashion Show - Five Star Outfit - Grown-Up Theme

In Style Boutique 2/Style Savvy 3, you can hold fashion shows and walk on the catwalk as a model. There are a variety of fashion show themes to choose from and once you have sold enough tickets to hold the show, you get to choose the outfit you wish to wear in the show as well as your make-up and hairstyle.

At the end of each fashion show, the game awards you a rating out of five based on how well your overall outfit matched the theme of the show. For a detailed guide on themes and taking part in fashion shows, please refer to the Fashion Show guide. The game does not give you hints at what specific style will fit the theme and bases your final score on how well your outfit, hairstyle and makeup matches the theme. Multiple styles fall under each category and you need to pick the one you feel best matches the theme.

This guide will look an outfit that received a five star rating. The theme for this fashion show was a grown up outfit for the winter and was the purple rose theme icon on the theme menu screen. The venue used was the fourth venue on the venue list which is the pink hued one with the water fountain and teacup display.

Now for the outfit. The clothing items used to create this outfit were:
  • Enid Chen - Chic Striped Dress
  • Enid Chen - Striped Leggings
  • Enid Chen - Lace Wedge Sandals
  • Enid Chen - Flower Detail Glasses
  • ARIANNA - Luxury Clutch

The hairstyle used is the side-swept waves. The make-up set used was the Marina Maiden set with the default colours (no adjustments made to the set).

After selecting ok after the outfit menu screen, Laurie provided a hint that the outfit fitted the grown up theme of the fashion show. Next it was time to hit the catwalk! Here's some screenshots of my character modelling the five star outfit. Be sure the click the effects buttons when taking part in fashion shows as they help hype up audience interest.

Time to see the final score. The outfit fitted perfectly with the grown-up theme and received five stars. The tricky part with achieving five star outfits is matching the hair and make-up to the theme. A good tip is to pick make-up sets with a good colour palette and match the feel/colour of your clothing items.

After this, Ricky and Laurie will talk to your about your performance. If you have an outfit that is 3 stars or higher, they will usually give you praise. Other NPC's will appear as well giving you feedback about your outfit. Ricky will appear afterwards and give you a miniature item as a gift. You do not receive a special miniature for achieving five stars. I received a chair item that I already had from previous fashion shows.

  1. Thank you so much for having the only real source of information for this game! This game is so good yet there's barely anything on the internet about it which sucks. I can't even find information like fun facts about the series. Do you know if/when the next Style Savvy will come out? I imagine they're making another one since this game is so good and they've already made three. I couldn't find any information about future plans for the series when I searched about so I don't expect you to know either, but then again I didn't even know about the second and third game until the end of 2016. I'd played the first game back when the DS was the latest handheld Nintendo console and was so astonished to find out that game I'd enjoyed actually became a series!

I do have one important question for you though. I've dressed the Stylettos multiple times now and they keep coming back to get more clothing items, saying things that make it sound like their group won't be successful until they have a specific clothing item in their respective colors. I assume that they're looking for the Purple Moon fairy corset item (whatever it's actually called) that goes with the rest of their costume but I haven't seen that item at the Exhibition Hall in red, yellow, or blue. I've only seen that costume in green and purple.

The Exhibition Hall stock is always changing, especially from season to season. There are certain clothing items that can only be found during certain seasons, days, etc. I was wondering if you have had any luck getting that item in the Styletto colors and what day your 3DS date was set to. When you gave them that corset, did it move the plot of their storyline forward or is it just part of the game that they're always coming back for wardrobe updates?

    1. Contrary to what one may think, the Stylettos only need an article of clothing that meets their color interests; Ruby wants something red; Amber wants something yellow; Sapphire wants something deep blue. However, you have to make them "Try it on!" if you want to get anywhere.

    2. Hi! Thank you for reading my blog! I totally agree with their being barely any information on the net apart from some Japanese posts if you search hard enough.
It will be a long while until the make a new Style Savvy/Style Boutique. Girls Mode 3 (the Japanese version) came out in Japan a long time ago and it still quite popular. And with the Switch coming out, I doubt a new game is on the cards. There was a 3 year gap between the 2nd and third games and it took forever for the game to get NA release after EUR/AU. Maybe in like 3 or 4 years time, they'll make the next installment in the series.

The Stylettos are only after a clothing item that matches their favourite colours: red, yellow and dark blue. You can give them anything from any brand. I will be making a guide on Stylettos eventually :)

The Fairy costume appears at Purple Moon around March I believe but you can get the red corset and the blue, yellow and red choker all year round. Yes, the exhibition hall changes stock constantly. I've found it changes about 3 times a month but with clothing that is suitable to that season. Most items can be found in all seasons apart from summer exclusive items such as bikinis, Purple Moon sets and some special seasonal themed items.

    3. Thank you so much for replying you guys! I was hoping that maybe there would be an end to their story if I gave them the corsets that finished their outfits rather than any item in their specific colors. I guess not though.

Are any of the Japanese posts in English by chance? I really wish this game had more information and a bigger community behind it outside of Japan because it's such an amazing series! I was really hoping a new game would be out in another year or two, not 3-4...darn it. I really hope the next game will be on the 3DS because I just got one and don't plan on buying a new console any time soon. I waited forever for the 3DS to go down in price as much as possible before I couldn't take it anymore and had to buy it.

Why do you think they make the DLC's only for Japan and Europe, sometimes even Japan exclusively? Does it cost money to make it available for North America? I would think that the content would be available in every region and it's frustrating that they're rarely available in North America. I want more content for this game as much as possible. I would restart the game but I don't want to go through unlocking everything again. That took me forever and I'm still working on unlocking a couple of hairstyles.

What's your opinion on the fashions shows in this third game, by the way? To me, they're not as fun as the fashion contests in the previous two games when they were actual challenges and had real rewards. Though I'm glad to have the Purple Moon brand items available daily at the Exhibition Hall. It wasn't fun when those types of items were only possible to get through the contests.

Can I ask what region you're from? You manage to get all of the DLC's so I was curious. And if you aren't familiar with the North American version of the game, did you know about how they were cheap with the localization process and decided to keep the game's British English from the European release? It's constantly evident throughout the whole game, even important words such as pants and cash register are different. They really alienated their North American audience by not properly localizing the game. It feels like North America was an after thought for them and they didn't care too much about the region compared to Europe and Japan.

    4. The Stylettos will keep visiting your boutique even after the main story line has finished. I've given up trying to give them matching outfits as they seem to just make everything look terrible by layering it.

You can use google translate or any translator, but sometimes the translation is terrible. But all information listed under Girls Mode 3 is in Japanese unfortunately apart from some tumblr posts by western players who own the Japanese version. If you want english posts, search for the western version of Style Boutique 2 and Style Savvy 3. Yes, it will be a while before the next one is at and nintendo is focused on other games right now with the Switch coming out and amiibos still being popular. I reckon the next one will still be on the 3DS as nintendo will keep making the console and it is still popular in Japan.

Japan often gets DLC exclusives for all types of games that never come out in the west. Some has to do with licensing issues and others is just Nintendo being lazy. The 3DS console is region locked so it is difficult to get other regions DLC content. I'm not too sure about the costs really, I don't have any connections to Nintendo. I wish EUR/AU got more DLC but thankful for the small amount we did get before they abandoned releasing anymore.

Fashion shows are a bit of a meh for me. I only really do them to sell lots of items from one specific theme quickly. I wasn't a fan of the ones in the previous game as I grew bored of them quickly and I thought maybe they could've made fashion shows make a bit more sense in this version and ditch the whole vague theming thing.

I play the Australian version which is the same as the European version as we are both PAL for video games. I have all the DLC that is available in Australia and I don't have the Japanese exclusive ones as I don't have the Japanese version. I think maybe it was just Nintendo rushing the localisation of the game. It took forever to come out and they just didn't change anything of the text in the game. Yes, I find it quite amusing they kept the British terms in the game because a lot of those words don't make any sense if you have never heard of them. I was confused at first at why so many players on tumblr were getting angry over the use of the word colour because it is spelt color in NA. They actually changed a lot of text on clothing when they localised the game for EUR/AU from Japan, so we got a few changes as well. Honestly, I'm not too sure as I don't work for Nintendo and for a long time, it looked like they weren't even going to bother releasing it for NA.

    5. The Stylettos feel kind of pointless then if there's no end to their "stroyline" and you can't even dress them up nicely because they only allow you to give them one item. I gave one of them a hat and I bet the only way to get rid of it is by giving her another head item.

I've looked on Tumblr and searched for Style Savvy stuff online but I haven't even seen Japanese posts ;-; I was surprised to even see a section for Style Savvy on GameFAQ when I was looking up a color guide. I really hope the next Style Savvy will be on the 3DS like you say!

I've never understood why the DS's have always been region locked. There must be some good reason for it but I have no clue. Maybe it's to keep each region as separate communities since they often have different versions of the game from each other?

It's really weird and not well designed game-wise how the fashion shows which have such emphasis put on them in the game don't give good rewards. You don't even get exclusive or just okay rewards in general for getting 5 stars.

I have a theory that there may be certain days of the year when most of an NPC's clothing is available at the Exhibition Hall. I say this because there has been times when I found almost all of Noor's outfit and I've even found the Beautician's dress. I completely forgot her name right now c':

There's honestly a lot of mistakes in the game. There's so many that I actually manage to find them. Usually I don't manage to find many mistakes or glitches in games. I just had one recently that was really frustrating. I customer asked me to give her a ponytail when she came to the hair salon. I always try to match their hairstyle and color to their outfit, skin tone, makeup, personality, etc. which is usually the fun part of the challenge when it comes to being a hair stylist for me. I gave the girl a high ponytail, that one that's very short and on top of that bob-like hair. When she didn't like it, I gave it a pass even though that hairstyle was called a ponytail. I thought to myself that it was just too different of a ponytail for her liking. Then I give her a regular ponytail that lays on her shoulder and she didn't like that either. She got annoyed and reminded me she wanted a ponytail when that's what I was doing! Then I decide to try a straight side ponytail and it STILL doesn't work, she proceeds to tell me she'd only wanted a ponytail and then leaves. I made sure that I was reading it correctly and checked to see if I read ponytail instead of pigtails but no, it really did say ponytail. So even though I was giving her exactly what she asked for, the game's programming was saying it was wrong. It reminded me of the Tiramisu shirt.

I'm at least glad they released it for NA. They don't advertise the game much and I never see it in stores. If they advertised it more then maybe it would get more popular. Did you play the original Style Savvy game too?

    6. I accidentally posted my reply as a new comment instead of an actual reply, whoops.

    7. Agreed. The Stylettos are kinda pointless, they could've put in more story lines for them or made them less annoying with outfits.

Previous DS consoles were not region-locked, the 3DS is unfortunately.

The items available at the Exhibition Hall change 3 times each month. So you will see common items pop up around the same time and especially if the item is seasonal specific.

Yes, that does happen at the hairdresser with customer sometimes. They just aren't specific enough with their request and sometimes don't even want the hairstyle they asked for. I usually just ignore it because it's so dumb with what they want.

I've played all the games in the series under the Style Boutique titles.

  3. There's a pretty nice amount of end game stuff compared to a lot of other games out there though I wish there was still more, or at least something to spend all my money on because I have too much money now. It makes doing jobs pointless in a challenge sense. I just do them because I want to now with no goal anymore.

Oh, I thought the DS was region locked because I was a major user of the Flipnote Studio system which was region locked.

I wish there was a list somewhere that had the dates of when each item was in stock. That would be nice.

One thing annoying to me is how the Beautician doesn't have a bunch of customers like the hair salon and boutique do. You might get three or four customers and then no more until you do something else. It's really annoying. And if all of them want makeup sets then you won't be able to do any actual makeup.

Is the Style Boutique series really different from Style Savvy?

    1. It's random when items appear as they will appear multiple times during the year. Some items like bikinis are season specific and are only available during summer. All you can do is check everyday and buy all the items.

Style Boutique is pretty much the same except the previous games had different names for some of the themes and clothing. It's just the EUR/AUS version really, same gameplay just a different name and cover.

  4. I did a fashion show using this outfit (minus the sandals and with a different color bag), and I got the same results you did. How did you come up with such a winning ensemble?

    1. I think it was pure luck more than anything. I did a fashion show yesterday and got 1 star. So you win some, you lose some.

  5. I did a fashion show today with the grown-up theme, and I put together an outfit that got me five stars. My outfit consisted of the following items:

    Chorale - Halter Dress (Blue-Green)
    Chorale - Cross-Over Sandals (Blue-Green)
Chorale - Seashell Pendant (Light Blue)
    Chorale - Three-Jewel Earrings (Green/Light Blue/Orange)
Chorale Prelude - Lacy Clutch Bag (Green)

For the hairstyle, I did the side-swept waves with the color Champagne as both the main color and the highlights. The make-up set I used was Wedding Bells.
