Boutique - Customer Requests

There are a number of different types of requests you will receive from characters who visit your Boutique. The requests are fairly simple to fulfill if you have the correct clothing items in stock that the customer is looking for. This guide will cover the requests that customers will ask for when visiting your Boutique.

Fashion Show Outfit
Customers will head straight to your Boutique after a fashion show to request an outfit based off the style from your latest show. Make sure to stock up on items based on the style you used in the show and if you are unsure of the style customers are looking for, they will tell you the exact one they are looking for straight away. This is a great opportunity to clear excess stock you don't want anymore quickly as you will have lots of customers or to generate quick cash from selling outfits completely made up of expensive chic style items.

This customer requested a girly outfit as she loved the girly themed outfit I wore in the fashion show.

Request for a specific item
Customers will occasionally ask for a specific item that matches a certain style. They will give you hints on what they are after and these requests are usually pretty basic. Sometimes they will ask for a style that isn't the main style of your Boutique (this means what decor you have currently set, i.e. girly or bold). Don't be afraid to decline the request if you do not have the item they are after in stock.

Examples of these types of requests include:
  • The customer gives you the maximum price they are looking to spend, usually occurs with customers looking for basic items.
  • The customer is looking to purchase a certain item for their wardrobe, i.e. basic inner, sporty trousers or girly shoes.
  • The customer is looking for an item to match their style and may not give you a hint on what their exact style is. You can tell by looking at their outfit and identifying what brand they are currently wearing. It's a good tip to memorise the brands and styles in the game. For information on the brands available in the game, please refer to this guide.
  • The customer is looking for an item to match one they are currently wearing. You can figure out what to suggest to them by listening to the style they say they are looking for and identifying the style of the item they are currently wearing.
  • You have helped the customer previously at the Beautician or Hair Salon and they are now looking for an outfit to complete their collection.

This customer wanted some bold shoes to energise her outfit.
This customer was in a rush and demanded some sporty trousers.

Mannequin Outfit
Make sure to make good use of the mannequin at your Boutique as customers will purchase outfits that are put on display on the mannequin. Customers who wish to purchase mannequin outfits can be found standing by the window when you are inside your boutique. Customers will only purchase mannequin outfits if it meets their style requirements. For a detailed guide on mannequins and selling outfits, please refer to the Mannequin guide.

This customer loved the outfit on the mannequin and just had to try it on.

Bonus Sale
Sometimes customers will come in requesting one item and if you impress them with your amazing fashion recommendations, they will decide to buy an extra item. These requests are pretty basic and are easy to fulfill if you provide them with an item that matches their style. This request always appeared in Style Boutique 1/Style Savvy 2, but it hardly ever pops up in this version. The silly thing about these requests is that sometimes the customer ends up walking away in the most ridiculous outfit that doesn't match.

This girly is wearing Marble Lily so her personal style is Baby-Doll.

She loved the suggest so much that she ended up getting a skirt as well.

The Stylettos
Local girl group the Stylettos are constantly on a mission to change their appearance every 5 seconds. The first stop of their style mission is your Boutique. Each Styletto will request a clothing item based off their favourite colour; Ruby is Red, Amber is yellow and Sapphire is blue. The Styletto characters appear with a yellow star symbol above them.

It is near impossible to get them in an outfit that actually matches because they seem to have this weird thing about layering everything and never removing the original items they were wearing. Provide them with the correct outfit and they will request that you give them a new hairstyle and make-up as well.

Event Outfit Request
Customers will appear in your Boutique with a musical note above their head and if you select these characters, they will tell you about an event they are planning on visiting. These characters will request an outfit based on a certain style and you may encounter the following events and some others as well:
  • Tea tasting event at the Rose Garden.
  • Fancy buffet happening at the Restaurant.
  • The customer is request an outfit based on the Five Sisters and wants to visit Peony Hall.
If you impress the customer with a good outfit, they will invite you to hang out with them at the event they were mentioning earlier. Visit the city map and look for locations with musical notes or yellow stars to locate where events are occurring.

This customer wanted a bold look for the buffet she was planning on attending.

Main NPC Outfit Request
The main story line characters will visit your Boutique occasionally to request a new outfit from you. Some of the characters will request an outfit for a certain event whilst others just want a new outfit to wear everyday. Be careful with the outfit you chose because you will be stuck with the character looking like that until they request a new outfit. Make sure to have new items in stock as the main characters will reject an outfit sometimes if it contains items they already own or have in a similuar colour. These characters appear with a yellow star symbol above them.

Each characters personal style and reasoning for a new outfit are listed as follows:
  • Callie - Style = Bold. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Sophie - Style = Girly. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Laurie - Style = Feminine. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Magda - Style = Goth. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Rainbow - Style = Lively. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Xiaoling - Style = Girly or Eastern. Requesting everyday outfit. (Xiaoling can be extremely tricky to please, I found she appreciated a girly Yukata)
  • Evie - Style = Feminine. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Adelaide - Style = Chic. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Sasha - Style = Boho-Chic. Requesting an outfit for her concert at the Live Music Club.
  • Zoey - Style = Prepp. Requesting an outfit for her speech at BunBun Funland.
  • Kristy - Style = Lively. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Noor - Style = Sporty. Requesting everyday outfit.
  • Arabella - Style = Bold. Requesting everyday outfit.

If you provide the character with an outfit that they like, they will invite you to visit them at a location to hang out. If you visit them, they will give you a miniature as a gift. The locations that they request to visit are as follows:
  • Restaurant - Kristy, Arabella & Adelaide.
  • The Meadows - Sophie & Rainbow.
  • Bougainville - Callie
  • Tropica Beach - Noor
  • BunBun Funland - Zoey, Xiaoling & Laurie.
  • Live Music Club - Sasha (Night Only. Modelling Jobs are not available until you visit her)
  • Maple Crescent - Evie

Designer Commission Item Request
If you have completed Designer Commission Requests for brand representatives at the Designer Lounge, customers will come to your Boutique and request items you have designed. The tricky part about these requests is that you may have deleted the item they are looking for from your Designer Portfolio as there is only so much space to store designs. You can reject customer requests for designer items if you do not have the item available. Customers will tell you which item they are looking for and the item doesn't have to exactly match their personal style. Customers will reject the item if they already own it (seems to happen to me a lot as I forget which customers have already brought my designs). For guides on designer commission requests, please refer to the following guides:

Luckily I still had stock available of my party dress I designed for this customer.

Two Customers At Once
Sometimes after you've served a customer, another will appear straight away asking for the same style outfit that the previous customer received because they thought they looked amazing. For this option to appear, it will occur customers who have a musical note above their head (and are not attending an event or other game scenario). Provide the customer with the outfit they are requesting (quite often belongs to the style of your Boutique decor) and after the customer has left the Boutique, the next customer will automatically appear without you having to select them. They will ask for an outfit of the same style as the customer before.

Something cute and girly please.

This girl loved the outfit I gave the other girl, so she just had to get the same!

Amiibo Item Characters
When you scan an Amiibo figure or certain Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards into the game, special characters appear who will give you Nintendo themed clothing items if you provide them with the correct outfit. These characters appear as a blue character in the Boutique and will inform you of the certain style they are after. For a detailed guide on Amiibo functionality in the game and how to serve these customers, please refer to the Amiibo Guide.

Example of the character who appears when scanning the Isabelle amiibo.

Amiibo characters will gift you special Nintendo themed clothing items like this Town Secretary Top.

Fashion Show Models
Once you have selected a theme and venue for your next fashion show, models may appear at your Boutique requesting outfits for the show. The tricky thing here is that they won't directly say what style they are looking for and this is a good opportunity to find out what style the fashion theme you choose is looking for. Always choose the Take A Look option with fashion show models as it gives you three tries to try and pick the correct outfit. Here is a guide on what styles belong to each category of fashion shows that you can use to pick an outfit (please note that this is a rough guide based on experiments conducted and other players may have found outfits they created fitted into these categories):

  • Cute - Girly, Baby-Doll, Lively and Preppy.
  • Cool - Bold, Rock, Basic and Sporty.
  • Fun - Lively, Sporty and Psychedelic.
  • Grown-Up - Feminine, Chic, Bold, Basic and Preppy.
  • Unique - Psychedelic, Boho, Eastern, Gothic, Rock and Chic.
  • Individual - Choose whatever style you wish.

It is completely random on whether or not models will visit you Boutique for fashion shows. Some players have reported having two models show up requesting outfits and others have reported the models never appearing. From my personal experience, I've only had two models appear once requesting outfits and then I never saw them again even though I held about 4 other shows afterwards. For more information on fashion shows, please visit the Fashion Show Guide.

Took a few tries, but worked out she was after a psychedelic outfit.

Caprice Chalet Characters
If you have downloaded rooms and added them to your dollshouse at the Caprice Chalet, the character of the player who you downloaded the room from may visit your Boutique sometimes. These characters appear as a green character at the Boutique and clicking on them will show information from their Profile Card. The requests are simple for these characters, they just request items of a certain style and quite often it is one such as Baby-Doll, Preppy or rock in my experience.

Why not download my Caprice Chalet room at 180-239-9851 and maybe my character will appear in your Boutique. Please refer to the Caprice Chalet guide for more information on rooms and the Room Codes Database for room codes that you can download.

This is the character from a Japanese player's room I downloaded.

Caprice Chalet Room Hire Request
When you have rooms available for rent at the Caprice Chalet, characters will appear in your Boutique requesting to rent them out. These characters appear with a house symbol above them and will not purchase any clothing items. For more information on renting out rooms, please refer to the Types of Rooms and Renting Guide.

  1. Hi! I'm wondering if you know what style a customer wants when they say 'dainty'? I usually guess feminine or girly.

It would be great if you could add a section about it in your guide. For example sometimes the customer wants a 'cool' item and I think either bold or rock but I don't always get it right.

    1. Dainty means girly. Actually I was going to make a guide on styles soon :)

    2. Awesome! Thanks for replying. Your guide is really useful! Thanks for keeping up with it.

  2. I have been playing for a few months now, and I have completed the main story line, the Five Sisters story line, and I have all of the design lounge requests done. Now, I only get the event requests and designer lounge requests. Do you have this problem and what can I do to fix it.

    1. Have you tried doing a fashion show to attract customers who want fashion show outfits?

      Delete
  3. Do you have a guide on stuff that customers won't accept?

    1. No I don't have a guide for unacceptable outfits unfortunately. I have written about incorrect outfits in various guides such as mannequins and boutique stuff. Customer will generally reject outfits for the following reasons:
      - Doesn't match their style or the style they requested.
      - Out of their budget range.
      - The outfit contains too many images and styles are clashing with each other.
      - Giving them the completely wrong item they asked for, for example giving them a headband instead of a hat.

      Delete
    2. Also they won't accept outfits if the clothes "clash with each other". Like they won't accept long pants with any casual dress (even a shirt dress) and any shirt underneath a party dress, even one that matches. Today I found out they also dislike light jackets mixed with a party dress. (That surprised me!)

When asked for a top and trousers in the winter you have to give them long sleeve top or else they will say "not likely" and say it's too cold. Yet they can accept a short sleeve shirt or shorts by itself. You really need to make a guide on it and show pictures that maybe you did on purpose.

    3. Yes it's quite funny when you realise the outfit you try to give customers sometimes. I've been quite out with this a few times in the past as I tend to just pile stuff on to clear out stock occasionally. I don't know if I'll make a guide on it nowadays, I did mention this issue somewhere in a guide not sure where though as it's been ages.

    4. Also in the winter time, they will accept a chic party dress mixed without a jacket as long as you pair a scarf and gloves with it. But that's only the party dresses that can't have outers over them, for the party dresses that can have outers they will not accept it and say it's too cold no matter what.

The designer party dresses can't be paired with scarves for some reason so they will accept those if you just pair them with the long gloves.

  4. When a character asks for something "Casual", does it matter exactly what you show them? Like if they ask for a bold and casual outfit, do you just show them any bold outfit?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I usually give them whichever of the two styles matches the style they currently have on or I know which style that particular customer likes. If they mention bold, I will go for that over casual as it's the more dominate style. Then I'll try to give them a bold outfit that's a bit more laid back and not as flashy. So it feels more 'casual' and has the bold style. Hopefully that kinda makes sense, I feel casual means the style they ask for (i.e. bold) but toned down rather than formal looking.

      Delete
    2. Can they actually reject the outfit if it isn't "casual" enough or do they really accept any bold outfit as long as the styles match together?

      Delete
  5. How much skin are they allowed to show when i make outfits for them in the winter time?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not very much skin actually. I usually don't show much besides hands and ankles. Always give them long sleeves or an outer.

      Delete
    2. The dresses that can't have outers are an exception. They only have to be paired with long gloves and tights to be warm enough. And all designer dresses too, for some reason.

      Delete
    3. Good point! Winter is a good time to clear out items like that. I usually go for outfits with lots of items to clear things out quicker.

      Delete
  6. Can you add a section on full outfits requests on a certain theme? That would include customers who request a full outfit that's not their usual style

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I most likely won't be making a guide on this topic as it's a pretty simple request. I just search for the style the customer requests and choose an outfit from the items that fits their price range and is appropriate for the season.

      Delete
    2. You don't have to make an entire new guide on it. You should just add another subsection of this post and give detail on each outfit request. I know that with
--Sporty - A non-sporty customer can say they love watching five-a-side football and want an outfit to match.
--Baby-doll - It's almost always a customer who is with a friend and saying she wants a baby doll costume for a school play
--Eastern - Same as with baby-doll, but she will say she needs an eastern outfit for a girl group, and that the competition seems fierce.
--Sporty - A customer will request an outfit that's "easy to move around in". It's for an event in the live music club.

      I forgot the rest

  7. When spring arrives, do they still accept winter outfits?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not full winter outfits as in outers and items that cover up the whole body. I would try outfits with light weight outers and short sleeve tops.

      Delete
    2. Do they say anything such as it's too warm? When exactly does spring start?

      Delete
  8. Do they accept any inners combined with a party dress? I know they don't accept t-shirts under them but what about others? Are there any other accessories they always reject when combined with party dresses?

    ReplyDelete
  9. If someone decides to ask for a bonus item to go with their first purchase, what happens if you choose "try it on" and they reject it? Do they still buy the first item?

    ReplyDelete
  10. The lace cheongsan from AZ-Usa is also a party dress! I never knew that for some reason as i never bothered to check. Even though the mini qipao dresses from Kanokoi look similar to it and are labeled as casual dresses and all the other party dresses are the long types and only chic.

You really need to make a new guide on stuff that customers reject. I'm still discovering new combinations that don't work out and most of it is with the party dresses.

    ReplyDelete
  11. They also dislikes hoodies with a party dress. That is only with eastern clothes (lace cheongsan + cherry blossom hoodie) as the Enid Chen selection does not include hoodies (obviously) and all other party dresses (designer clothing from Enid Chen, Marble Lily, and Marzipan Sky) can't be paired with outers of any kind.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's also with bold clothes too as the lace cheongsan is from AZ-USA for some reason

  12. Now that it's summer, what exact clothes don't go with bikini tops?
