To unlock the make-up sets, you must obtain a special item from characters around the city at different times of the week and year. Look for a character with a musical note above their head and talk to them to obtain the item. Once you have the item, take it to Tarquin on the second floor of the Beautician and he will give you a make-up set themed around the item you found. Please refer to the Make-Up Lab guide on how to use these sets and the Default Colours and Looks guide for the unique colours of each set.
There are 30 make-up sets to collect in the game. This guide details the name of the set, the item to collect and it's location, the time of week or year the item is available and the specific time the item is available.

Thank you, This is very helpful. I do have one question. I have the 'Wide Eyed Wonder' set and the 'Homemade Broth' set but I Have not received The 'default' makeup set. Is there a certain way to use the set or do I have to obtain it?

ReplyDeleteHi! Which specific make-up set are you having trouble with? Sometimes if the NPC doesn't show, you need to exit and re-enter the location. Or you may need to complete an event with a NPC character beforehand, i.e. visit the Meadow Walk with Rainbow or Sophie.
DeleteDifferent person, same issue. I'm trying to get the Cosmos 9 item but each time I enter the Meadow Walk, Jocelyn just says some random lines and then I get the 3 options of what to do there. If I need an event with one of the other characters here, how is that triggered? Thanks for the help!
DeleteTo unlock the item for Cosmos 9, you don't need to talk to Jocelyn. You must talk to an NPC. Visit The Meadows at 11pm to 4am on Tues/Wed and a musical note should appear at Meadow Walk, that should be the NPC you need to talk to.
DeleteI went into Meadow Park as soon as I saw the musical note, but then it disappeared after that and I couldn't get any closer to getting the item needed for Cosmos 9. Do I need to keep going in there until the musical note reappears or should I try again next week?

ReplyDeleteI can actually help answer that. Yes they are based off "military time" so 14:00-17:59 is 2:00pm-5:59pm and 18:00-23:59 is 6:00pm-11:59pm.
DeleteThanks for the help Joanna. Yes, military time can be tricky sometimes. The trick I use is that I subtract 2 from the first number so 14:00 is 2:00pm. It sounds weird, but that's how I do it to read my work rosters.

ReplyDeleteYou probably my haven't talked to the right NPC yet. It happened to me, I found out I had not yet met the person I was supposed to meet at the location to obtain the item for the set. Just keep trying, talk to everyone in town, and follow the exact time and day. Sooner or late you can unlock it.
DeleteTry saving and reloading the game. I found this trick works. Just keep doing this and visiting the location until you see the NPC.

ReplyDeleteHeart 2 Heart is a difficult one as I believe it may be different to unlock in Style Savvy. I have Style Boutique and this guide is based off the Japanese guide and how I was able to unlock them in Style Boutique.

DeleteI unlocked my Halloween set in November as that was when it came out in Australia. So you will definitely be able to get it then if it hasn't changed in the NA version.

ReplyDeleteFor some reason all the other sets I was able to get no problem (Seasonal) except for the Christmas and Valentines. I want to at least obtain a few of the seasonal sets the legit way instead of time traveling.
Unless they changed it in Style Savvy, you definitely should be able to unlock the Halloween set between September and November. October may be a good time to try as Halloween is in that month.
DeleteHmmm that's what I thought too since ur guide says September-November. I saw a guide on YouTube (Japanese walkthrough)and the person got her Halloween set on September 6th. I just probably have to keep on playing. I remember when getting the Exotic Grape color it took a while to finally have Jewel outside her hut to trigger the Exotic Grape color.

DeleteI saved the Soy brand for as last as possible because I don't like the Soy brand a lot. I would of unlocked Soy sooner if I knew that's what was keeping me from receiving the Halloween set LOL.
How strange that's how it worked in the end. Yeah, the Soy brand isn't too exciting but you need it in order to fulfill requests from Sasha.

DeleteWhen I first saw the Soy brand in Trendsetters I was like yeah I won't be keeping a lot of stock of Soy. I'm also not keeping a lot of Soy in Fashion Forward too. I wish Soy in Fashion Forward was replaced with something else.
Thankfully for Sasha I didn't have to wait long to unlock Soy to complete her request.
Yes, I don't keep much Soy items either. Just new items for Sasha as she won't buy things she already owns. It's not my style of clothing, but I'm sure it's someones favourite brand somewhere out there!

DeleteI think the timing for the Peacock set is a little off. I tried going to Bougainville after 2:00pm, but there was no musical note above the Bougainville button. On top of that, you had the times stated as 14:00 to 23:59. Should I try again at, say, 18:00(6:00pm)?
ReplyDeleteTry around 6pm. The times may be off in Style Savvy as this guide is primarily based off Girls Mode 3 (the Japanese version) and Style Boutique 2 (the EU/AU version). Sometimes the NPC's do not appear as well, so I would recommend trying a different time.

DeleteWhat make-up sets would fall under the Unique category? I used the Galactic Ranger set with a psychedelic outfit in a fashion show, and I ended up with two stars.
ReplyDeleteGood question. I have been researching what make-up sets match what themes so a guide will be made one day. It is hard to match the make-up to the outfit. I usually go buy what matches the outfit in terms of colours or how the blush looks (not a fan of the over the top blush application). I believe Psychedelic make-up has green tones in it

By the way, you said in the fashion show guide that the hairstyle should match the theme of the show. Does the hair color need to match as well?
DeleteI've read that Japanese players believe the colour was important for the theme. I usually pick a hair colour that matches the tone of the outfit, i.e. coloured hair for a lively outfit and more natural colours like blonde for a girly or feminine outfit.

Try visiting really late at night, maybe around 11:30pm.
DeleteHaha if you time travel too much, it can glitch out the Exhibition Hall but it fixes itself once you reset your clock to the actual day that it is in the real world.
In Savvy Style: Fashion Forward, setting the clock to 11:30 (23:30) worked for me for getting the Sea Card to unlock Marina Maiden and I didn't need to reset DS clock back to the real world date, so as far as I can figure you can still time travel to get it (the NPC that gives you it is the fisherman Tamwar, just look for a Music Note above his head and you should get it).
DeleteYes, Style Savvy (and Style Boutique) are pretty forgiving with time travelling unlike other nintendo games like Animal Crossing. It doesn't mess with your game too much, but it will glitch out the Exhibition Hall if you do it. For example, it will show Chorale scarves in the ARIANNA brand.

Hi! You should be able to unlock sets once you have the Beautician open. Maybe try visiting the EShop to see if there is an update for the game in case yours is buggy. Otherwise, the characters should appear at the times stated. Try exiting and re-entering the location or saving and restarting your game.

In case anyone has the same issue: I first had to put a make-up set on display at the Beautician, then a guy came and asked if he could buy it. After that, Tarquin told me I could bring him objects to create the new make-up sets!

The only wedding I know of is Adelaide's, and that takes place after you finish the third fashion show.
ReplyDeleteNo wedding takes place, an NPC just talks to you about the location. The only wedding that happens is Adelaide's wedding as part of the main story line.

DeleteIf you are still having trouble, try visiting the make-up lounge to check Tarquin has all the make-up set items you currently have as it may be causing a backlog of items. Or if the NPC does not appear with the musical note, exit and re-enter the area. I find a good trick is to save and reload your game as well.
So I final got the Galactic Ranger but it didn't give me it until 8:00 I tried at 6, and at 7 also.
DeleteYes sometimes the night time ones are hard to get as night time in the game doesn't technically start until the little icon in the clock corner turns to a moon. With the night time ones, I used to always try after 10pm as it was definitely night time at that time.

ReplyDeleteThe time for Butterfly Flight is between 12pm and 3:59pm. Try between those times. You could try time traveling back to March to see if that helps.
DeleteHello, thank you so much for all these guides. I have a question: In the game, you can display three sets of make-up for customers. One time I changed them and Tarquin said something like "this is a really good mix of sets". I've since changed it (stupid me) and can't recall which sets I used but I had a poppy, a gothic and a feminine set, I think. The customers really liked that too and they bought more of them. Ever since, I wasn't able to achieve "a good mix" of sets to display. Do you have any tips on that?

ReplyDeleteYou cannot enter the mansion at the Meadows unfortunately. The butler will talk to your or another NPC instead. There is a story line to meet the Five Sisters who live there, but you don't get to see inside.

ReplyDeleteMake sure you visit the location on the day and time specified in the guide. If the NPC's are still not showing up, the best trick is to save and reload your game and revisit the location to see if they apppear.

The cobweb is also called "Spider's Web" in the NA version and which I did, in fact, receive AFTER the penlight which is contrary to your guide which states the cobweb must be received first: A change from the Japanese version. Also, UFO doesn't seem to be available after 6pm today (Saturday) even though it should be. I will try tomorrow (Sunday) and let you know if I get it. Isn't the NA version the same as UK/AUS? I can tell b/c color is spelled "colour" in the game.
DeleteThe reason for the penlight/cobweb thing is because the official Japanese guide states this is the order and this was the way Japanese players had been unlocking it. I unlocked mine the same way, but I know a few players had the same result as you. So it's more of just a general guide on how to unlock it.
DeleteI believe the games are exactly the same. When I make the guides, sometimes they are based off information from Japanese sources but western players have found more ways to unlock things. The North America version didn't receive their own version so it has the UK english spelling for words.
Incidentally that worked out for us Canadians who share the same spelling as the UK! It's good to know that Treehouse didn't translate this one, phew!

ReplyDeleteAre you visiting at the time/season/day specified with each make-up set? If not, one suggestion I can give you is to go to every location in the game and talk to all the NPC's to try to clear them out. Some players have noted that can help sometimes.

ReplyDeleteBeen ages since I worked on this guide or played this part but I'm sure it has something to do with Sophie or Callie visiting you at the apartment on a Friday. Just go in and out a few times keeping coming back to the apartment and it should unlock. Or try the old start the game up, check the location by entering/exiting in a cycle and if it doesn't work, reset the game and try again.
